¥ Stanley's Virtual Driving School

Hi and Welcome to my virtual driving school! First I have to apologize for my imperfect english. Any language corrections are appreciated. Stanley's Driving School will help you in playing driving simulations with good results. Games like Colin McRae DiRT, Test Drive Unlimited, mainly the half-arcade half-simulation style games. It can also help you in some real life racing environments, such as go-kart. Even pros should read this as they may find some useful hints. Here is a quick list of the pages of this tutorial.

Please take a short break to check out my Buddies' pages as they can give you useful information about racing games. Also they help bringing this tutorial to more people. My Buddies are:

BEFORE YOU START PLAYING a racing game...

Racing is just like any other work in the world except it's much fun too. This may seem strange but it's true. So first you have to create your ideal work environment! You need a racing wheel. It not only adds a great deal to the fun factor, it makes playing a lot easier. It also improves your real life driving skills even if these games are far from realistic. Logitech Formula Force ExIt can teach you a lot of things about the behavior of a car through the "force feedback" feature. Playing with keyboard just teaches you how to play with keyboard. Nothing else. (Now theres a useless knowledge!) I have a Logitech Formula Force Ex which is perfect and relatively cheap. Hardcore gamers would probably advice you to get the Logitech G25 wich is in my opinion too serious for a video game. It has cluth and a stick shift. Anyways, if you want to learn using a stick shift (which is very common in Europe) in a safe environment and without damaging a car, go G25.

"Building your car"

Now that you have the wheel, try and adjust your environment so that it is a combination of a healthy office-style work environment and the inside of a car. You should position yourself something like this while playing. The head is in line with the top of the screen. Arms are slightly bended. Back is straight and leant back like in a car. Thighs are horizontal. The base of the wheel is above the knees. Heels are placed on the base of the pedals. Grab the steering wheel as shown on the picture. You can rest your thumbs like this getting a good grip.
